Easter Week

We had a lot of fun Easter events. Something happened to my camera and a bunch of my photos didn't come out, but here is the synopsis.

We started by dying easter eggs. Haydn wanted to sleep with his egg after. He didn't understand why they were still breakable. We finished without anyone or anything being dyed besides the eggs. Good job!

Then Saturday morning brought the Washington city Easter egg hunt. The park was packed, but Haydn managed to get some candy in his Easter bucket so he was happy. Taite was happy to hang out with Dad.


Later that afternoon we went to a picnic at the Williams' where Haydn got to jump on the tramp and show off his muscles. There was another easter egg hunt, but those are the pictures that didn't turn out.Then Easter morning - Don't the boys look cute in their spring outfits.

Happy Birthday Riley!!

Today is Riley's 31st birthday! Wow he is getting old! Here are a few reasons why the boys and I love Riley (in no particular order) -

1. He is really smart. Not annoyingly smart, but smart where he will read something or hear something and just remember it. He actually gets the right answer to questions on Jeopardy. I tell you smart!

2. He has the best laugh. He laughs easily and out loud. I love it. It is hard to not laugh along your self when Riley starts laughing.

3. No job is too big or too small for him. Riley helps me with everything and I mean EVERYTHING from cooking to cleaning toilets to washing the floor on his hands and knees. He will clean out the litter box, change diapers anything at all. He is such a great partner.

4. He plays with the boys. Whether it is working in the yard or on the house Riley will always let Haydn and Taite tag along and he will always stop what he is doing to play with them.

5. He LOVES post-it notes. When Riley and I were dating he had post-it notes all over his room and that habit has not changed. Even with my urging to come up with another way to become more organized. His office is covered in post-it note reminders and notes on his desk, computer screen, note board. It's hillarious - how he finds anything is beyond me.

6. He makes friends everywhere. Riley is not afraid to talk to anyone and can usually find something in common with anyone he talks to. A trait I have always admired, being the more shy of our dynamic duo.

7. He has a big heart. He always wants the best for people and will help out in any way he can. Right now he is volunteering coaching Lacrosse and picks up a junior high kid twice a week and takes him to practice so he can participate, his parents are divorced and both work full-time so are unable to take him.

8. He loves how things smell. He ties a lot of memories to how things smell. I used to think it was really weird until I realized how much I love the smell of cookies baking, or cinnamon at Christmas time, or Cinnabon's at the airport and on and on.

9. He loves movies. Nothing would make Riley happier than having a cold Pepsi and watching a movie. I love the simplicity in this. He finds happiness in little things and doesn't wait for the "big" things to be happy.

10. He loves us!! And there is nothing better than having a husband and dad that you know loves you.

Taite's 6 month pictures

Spring has sprung

Spring has found it's way to St. George and we are enjoying it. These are the flowers that popped up in our front yard this past week and the view behind our house.

Sick, sick, sick

It all started two weeks ago when Taite got a cold that turned into an ear infection and conjunctivitis, he then passed on his conjunctivitis to his mom who also got Strep the same time Haydn came down with double ear infections. Riley was the last survivor taking care of all of us until I finished my antibiotic and he decided to join the ranks. So in the last two weeks all four of us have been on an antibiotic, eye drops, Tylenol, and copious amounts of cold medication. I have washed all blankets, sheets and pillows on the sanitary cycle and disinfected all the doorknobs, phones, remotes and toys I could. We are finally starting to feel better. Our Dr. informed us that the past month they had seen an increased amount of RSV and pneumonia. No thank you. So the boys stayed home from daycare for the week and Grandma Snow watched them today so Riley and I could go to church.

Our other news in no better than being sick. Riley's grandma Squire was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma. They will be finding out soon about treatment options. She and the rest of the family could use any prayers and words of support in this difficult time. But we know if anyone can put on a brave face and battle this successfully Grandma Squire with her "ornery Hafen blood" can.

Taite: (6 months) He is my smiley little boy. Happy all the time. He is no longer taking the reflux medicine. YEAH!! He has started solids. He didn't like rice cereal at first, but now that he is getting fruits and vegetables he is warming up to the idea. He is rolling over and close to sitting up. He loves to watch his big brother and Mable and Otis play. His favorite toy right now are his feet!




Haydn: (27 months or 2 1/4) Very much the 2 y/o, he has to have order to everything in his life. When walking home from daycare we have to cross the street at a certain spot, eat off of a certain plate, drink from a certain cup, wear this pair of shoes, and this jacket and on and on and on. He is our little helper. He assists with feeding Mable and Otis by bringing over their dishes and putting them back. He loves books and has started making up his own stories. He still loves anything cars or trucks and fixing them with his tools.

We found this fun game for Haydn to play and he LOVES it!! I have been looking for a game for him for the longest time, but not wanting to waste money on something he didn't like or was too young for, since most games say 3 and older, I haven't bought anything. Until NOW. I had a friend tell me about Cariboo and I bought it the next day. He has had so much fun playing it. He can play by himself or with mom and dad. It has beginner and advanced options so it will last for a while. The beginner version teaches shapes, colors, ABC and 1-4. The advanced uses the whole alphabet and 1-10. Learning while playing - my favorite.

Snow in St. George

We got our once a year snowfall last night. We all went out during the Super Bowl to catch snowflakes on our tongue and the first thing Haydn wanted to do this morning was go out and play in the snow. We got him dressed and thought he would last about 2 minutes. We finally convinced him to come in after a half an hour when his mittens were soaking wet and his nose and cheeks were bright red. He had so much fun stomping through the snow on the front lawn and making snowballs and eating the snow. Ummm delicious!
